Meet the Media Specialist

   minions     Välkommen
(which is Swedish for welcome) to our gifted school!

The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it.    -Michelangelo

So who is Mrs. Evans?

Spending time with my family is something I always look forward to… my husband, two sons and a cocker spaniel named after  the Monsters Inc. character….Sulley!  I like to watch movies, travel, read, swim/scuba dive and be at the beach.  We have lived in the Metrowest area of Orlando for eight years now after moving down from Atlanta.  I am full Swedish American so my classes tend to have a global spin on them as well.  With two gifted sons of my own, I have a personal perspective of gifted that I am able to share with students and parents alike tackling the task of "growing up gifted".

Having been the head of inventory control for The Home Depot working with the founders as my first "real" job outside of college in my first career, I can also bring real world experience apart from the classroom.  Certified for teaching K-6, ESOL, gifted, media specialist and school administration, I have school administration experience and have taught Gifted, Art and all K-5 grades at some point in my twenty-five plus years teaching.  My title is Media Specialist while wearing many other "hats" working at OGA as part of the leadership team.

Challenging students to be independent and with rigor, I tend to teach “out of the box” than what a typical classroom might look like so I am very excited about being a part of the opening of Orlando Gifted Academy.   I teach any student I work with to be very independent, risk-taking, life-long learners to get along with others working as a part of a collaborative group while striving to always give their best efforts.

We work hard but play as hard so we are going to have loads of fun while learning a LOT!  Welcome to OGA!
